Ólafur Ólafsson kept most if his money in Kaupthing Luxembourg, and according too various media outlets, managed to transfer most of it just days before the whole system in Iceland collapsed. He did this by buying up Icelandic government insured bonds.

According to Channel 2 news in Iceland, Björgólfur Thor Björgólfsson, Björgólfur Guðmundsson, Karl Wernersson og Magnús Þorsteinsson transferred millions from Björgólfur Thor’s investment bank Straumur to various offshore islands (tax havens) the same day as the announcement the Glitnir would be nationalised. Iceland’s debt just got worse.
Nothing new in that sense, but it hits the public very hard. And to think that the Dutch government actually tried to stop Iceland-s application to the EU today, but they did not succeed. The debt got higher, and the amount is 100 billion ISK.

This has been known for a long time, but now there are some actual evidence that the bank managers of Glitnir, Kaupthing and Landsbanki transferred a lot of money from their own personal accounts just days before the banks collapsed.
